West Virginia
« on: October 15, 2012, 06:52:37 AM »

I have a good feeling about the game this weekend against West Virginia. I was extremely nervous heading into Iowa State, so maybe it's not a good thing I'm feeling this way.
I really like how our offense matches up with their D and our RBs and Option is going to give them fits all day. This will easily setup some play action which will exploit their weakest link in pass coverage.
On the reverse their strongest point is passing and that seems to be a BIG weakness for us. If we are able to get a few stops (turnovers?) I give us a good chance. It will be another nail biter.

Here are my concerns:

#1:  For some reason, before a big game, the other team can't seem to make it without any battle wounds and like last year, the team rebounds well the following week.  Scared they will come out firing on all cylinders.

#2:  When Baily went out, Geno was not ready for that.  If he is playing, he is a beast (best WR we have seen in years).  If he is out, Geno will be ready to go without him.

#3:  I saw their weakness on the O-Line and just needing to keep the WR's in front of us for 3-5 sec and a semi good pass rush could disrupt Geno.  I am now scared that Tech exposed them and that will be patched up before our game.  Wish we could have exposed.

On the flip side.  This could truly be the year of the Cats.  We play well as a team, and our Offense hasn't looked this good in years.  Our D might be suspect in the passing game, but lets not kid ourselves.... team can see that in the film and NO ONE to-date has been able to scheme against us.  Through 6 games, that means our D is doing something more then I know and preventing them from just passing like crazy against us.

If we go into half with any lead, I have us winning.  Lets go Cats!

You bring up a great point, which also makes me a little nervous. I don't understand why teams don't just pass against us the whole game, we haven't been too convincing as a team that can stop that. We got lucky SEVERAL times against ISU due to bad throws by their QB and wide receivers who has a lot of day light in front of them.

Geno is a Heisman candidate because he can throw, we need to get pressure on him (unlike what we did against ISU) and get him outside his comfort zone.

Here is one other view, one that I typically don't look at but want to bring up:

I haven't believed in Texas since the start of the season.  I am VERY confident that Ash can NOT lead them to success.  But, for some reason they were getting a lot of rep.  So.. when they played WVU, I was not surprised that WVU won, but I was VERY VERY surprised at the score and struggle they caused WVU.  So then I am thinking that if I know Texas is bad and WVU nearly won, maybe WVU isn't that good.  Sure enough, a Tech team that got BLEW out by OU stomps them.  So look at the whole picture.  We beat OU who dominates Tech.  I feel correct that Texas is not good (OU also showed that).  So that only means that WVU just isn't that good.  I would say the #17 shows that no one believed in them.  You don't drop that hard without doubt.  We could easily walk in and steam roll them?!?!?

Thoughts?

I typically don't look at this as well, BUT since we have not played any teams the same yet you have to look at similiar matchups. You bring up a good point about  OU vs Texas & Tech and WVa vs Texas & Tech.

Just like most games the past 2 years this is ours to lose now. WE cannot have the mistakes and penalties (although a lot were BS) that we had last week ON THE ROAD and expect to come away with a victory in Morgan Town, who has a reputation for the most ville fans in the nation (this is not a complement, they are worse than CU from what I've been reading).

OU Fan's don't think we have a chance against WVa. I don't think us losing to them will help them at all, since we have the tie breaker over them.

I feel like we can finish strong with WVU. I have been following this team for a bit since my dad and his family all live next to the team. It always seems this team has high expectations and always flop. I think Tech showed some realities about this team and we will further validate this above average team West Virginia.

Ubben Picks K-State

Quote
No. 4 Kansas State 37, No. 13 West Virginia 34: This was my second-toughest pick of the week. My confidence in it? Not very high. Still, I'm taking the Fightin' Bill Snyders to dominate the clock and the line of scrimmage in this game, though WVU gets a whole bunch of quick scores. West Virginia's got little to no shot to slow this running game, and the Wildcats one again win a tight one. This is also my game of the week. Come back later today for a video looking deeper into the game.

I want this win so badly!  I do have a good feeling.  I wish we were playing in Manhappiness but a win in Morgantown would be much more convincing. One can look at stats and film and projections, etc but it's hard to say what will really transpire at game time.  We've come out sluggish in 11 a.m. games so perhaps this night game will serve us better. I think we cannot afford to dig a hole in the first half unless that hole is for WV.  Go Cats!!!
