Pathetic

The game was the K-State's worst attended of the young season. The fans that did show up were mostly apathetic for 40 minutes. They cheered loudest for t-shirts and were barely moved by a K-State football highlight video that was shown at halftime. Finals week combined with a Sunday-afternoon game against a little-known opponent is capable of creating such an environment, but whatever the cause, Frank Martin's team played into the theme.

It's a Sunday afternoon in Manhattan. WTF else do the students have to do besides show up for the basketball game. The crowed this whole year has been terrible. Octagon of Doom my butt, place is probably now the calmest in the league.

I was at this game, and its now the third I have gone to this season, but the turnout has been embarrassing all year long. Its unfortunate because there were some exciting moments in the game, as well as the Football highlight video was one of coolest things I've seen all year. It might just be me, but K-State crowds have been lacking all year, dare I say even with football at times. Don't know if tickets are too pricey, or we aren't getting the word out enough that it is important to show up and support the team but it needs to change

Also... Whatever happened to Bleeding Purple? There is a lot of apathy in the younger fan base these days. IMO

I have to agree that its been bad.  I know our fans show up for Big 12 play, but I would think the entire town of Manhattan would have nothing better to do on Sunday afternoon but watch some Cats play ball.  I am confused.  :(

Talking about football, I was impressed at the early attendance and the showing all the way up to OU.  After that game obviously it went down.  But when we played A&M, last time seeing that team, both teams basically equal, why wouldn't you come expecting a great game..... and great game it was.  When I saw that the stands were not going to be filled, I just shook my head.

My HOPE is that everyone is planning on going big down in Dallas and are saving money for that trip vs the non conf games.  If that's the case, I understand.  Though if I lived remotely close, I would hit it all up.

No Comment on student attendance bc I've been baffled by it as well......
But for the old folks I think there are 3 big problems with our home game attendance for Basketball:

First of all - A great deal of our fans come from Wichita and Kansas City. It’s very hard to make it 2+ hrs to bball games on week nights against crappy opponents. I've made it to all but 3 games this year but have been unable to give my tickets away or sell them on the exchange for the ones I've missed (and that is listing them at $0.24 per ticket, the system minimum) This isn't an excuse - I sit by fans that drive 4 hrs from western KS to every basketball game, there are retired however. But Wichita St and KU, the 2 schools I have some insight on, have fans much closer. I’d estimate about 95% of WSU’s season ticket holders are within 30 minutes of the arena, While about 90% of KU’s are within an hour.
For K-State I’d say we have about 50% of our non-student ticket holders >1 hour away

Second of All - For fans - Sports are a form of entertainment - Frank Martin basketball is not very entertaining at times. I love winning and will always take an ugly win over a loss. I love Franks personality, his fire, his focus on defense and rebounding, and his emphasis on physical and mental toughness. HOWEVER, this time of year, Frank’s teams are very difficult to watch. A typical Frank Martin team Nov-Jan turns the ball over a TON, can't shoot free throws, doesn't really have an offense, and commits mass amounts of fouls, and plays down to their competition (this description fits about 75% of our games this year). Watching a team go through 4 minute stretches where all we do is put a streak of those things together is not very entertaining. As a student with a test to study for, or someone who is stressed about work, or people with young children, and people who have to travel several hours, I can understand why people don't have interest in going to games against North Florida A&M Tech State.
