Burns leaves coaching staff

MANHATTAN | After one season, defensive backs coach Keith Burns has left Kansas State to take a similar position at Mississippi.

Burns, who previously worked as a head coach at Tulsa and defensive coordinator at Arkansas, Southern California and San Jose State, will join Houston Nutt’s staff. Burns served under Nutt while both were at Arkansas. “This was an opportunity for Keith to be with a coach whom he had worked for three years and greatly enhance his salary,” K-State coach Bill Snyder said in a statement. “He and Houston go back a long way to their days at the University of Arkansas, and I’m confident he will do well at Mississippi.” Snyder now has two openings on his staff. Tight ends coach Ricky Rahne resigned in December to take a job coaching quarterbacks at Vanderbilt.

Confirmed that Tom Hayes will replace KSU DB coach Keith Burns. Hayes coached DBs last year at Tulane.  Hayes, 60, is a former DC at KU and OU. Coached and played at Iowa. Also worked as secondary coach with the Redskins.

So this transition looks to be OK if not good.  I didn't know much about either of them, but Hayes seems to be good.
