Honestly this comes down to personal preference. I didn't become a Basketball fan until my Sophomore year in college, and still don't quite understand all the intricate rules. I was always a Football kid that began playing in the 1st grade, I never played Basketball.  I could tell you what plays are possible out of certain formations and if the offense will be charged for illegal formation or not before the snap, but I could not tell you how long a Basketball player gets to shoot a free throw (I assume there is some time limit).

So for me Football will always be King. You don't see 110,000 seat Basketball arenas but you do see 110,000 Football stadiums.

I believe (if I remember from my rules book) that a BB player is supposed to get 10 seconds to shoot a freethrow.

Why is that?  Think of the money they would make if they could sell that many tickets for a BB game or even an NCAA tourney game. What is the record for most attendance to a basketball game?????

Don't know the record attendance, but they did have one of the NCAA rounds in a Football stadium, don't know if all the seats were available but if I remember correctly it wasn't full.

Even though we all have been interpreting "king of sports" differently ($$, best event each year, attendance, most intensity), here are some fun stats regarding the attendance portion.

D1 FBS - 2008 - 798 games - 37MM total attendance - 46,971 avg attendance
D1 Basketball - 2008/09 - 5,128 games - 27MM total attendance - 5,277 avg attendance

Super Bowl - 103,985 record - 74,059 (2010)
NCAA Basketball - 78,129 record - 70,930 (2010 Champ Game)
NCAA Football - 123,000 record - 78,603 (2011 Champ Game)

I'm with lynch on this one, Football will always be king to me.

For one, there are far, far fewer Football games than basketball, meaning that there is a whole lot less on the line for each Basketball game. If you miss or loose one no big deal, there are 30 more. The scheduling is annoying too, Monday night Wednesday Night, Saturday, but some times Sunday, then occasionally Tuesday and Thursday. I think someone said earlier that the weather was what made them like Basketball more, because you are inside in an arena, isn't there something to being out in the element that gives Football the X-factor? I know there were some of you at the Texas game back in 2006, or the Big XII Championship against Oklahoma in 2003, or even better, when hell Froze over and we beat Nebraska, did not the weather make those games just a little bit better, because you and your family braved the elements to watch the Cats win? I think I could go on and on why football is the king.... but I won't. Don't get me wrong I love K-State basketball, but it will always be my 2nd favorite sport.

I'd just like to say that this is also my first post. I have been following K-State Nation now for a couple months now and really like what you guys have done here. Read this topic last night and felt like I had to finally jump in. Anyways guys keep up the great work, and thanks for having a venue like this for us Wildcat fans!

Let's looks at Iba vs. B.P. Stadium. Iba has sold a ton of season tickets this year, but during one of their "Premium" games vs K-State it was still only half full, and OSU has a good Basketball team. I don't think you'll ever find B.P. Stadium half full even on a down year.

The reason Iba is half full is because most of the fan base is still loyal to Eddie Sutton.  It's unfortunate that people won't attend a game because of who the coach is.  And I must say, Coach Travis Ford is one hell of a coach and couldn't ask for much better.  Until this mindset changes and people can get behind the coach, you'll still see Iba half full regardless of who is in there (with the exception of OU, KU, and maybe UT).  Also, Iba used to sell out and then some, we have yet to sell out BP stadium.  And there were definitely times where BP stadium was half full back in the 4-8, 3-9 years.

I was talking to a co-worker of mine that is a big OSU fan, and he said that he just can't get behind Coach Ford.  The biggest reason is that we don't have those years where we make the final four (yet).  He keeps turning out mediocre years (with mediocre talent) that don't get him fired and don't get him better job opportunities.  I think OSU basketball is set to be mediocre until a coach with strong OSU ties that will be there for the rest of his career (*cough* Bill Self *cough*) comes along to resurrect the program and make Iba the craziest arena again.  Just my 2 cents.  It's unfortunate that the program has fallen to this, and I can't wait to see us back in the championship hunt again in a few years.
