Thoughts after first game
« on: November 12, 2010, 10:26:08 PM »

  I didn't hear why Kelly wasn't playing, but if we don't get more points in the paint it could be a painful year.

The Good:

We're 1-0
Jake, Nick, and Rodney looked good in the backcourt
Sprads and Irving are going to be solid backups
On fire from behind the arc
Depth

The Bad:

Why is it so hard to make free throws?
Front court was horrendous tonight
Kelly was suspended for the game

So we came into the season thinking Jake and the bigs were our strength. but tonight showed our GUARDS are further along than we thought.  Now lets get ready for Virginia Tech!

Rumors that it was lack of effort in practice.  Not really a suspension, more of Frank just being Frank.

If you don't practice hard... you don't play.

This just ruined my day.   :typical:  Kelly better step up or we will need a new billboard.  :fitzed:

Quote
Kansas State forward Curtis Kelly is expected to miss his second consecutive game Tuesday when the Wildcats play No. 21 Virginia Tech, according to FOX Sports reporter Jeff Goodman.

Kelley did not play in Kansas State’s season-opening 75-61 win against James Madison on Friday, and head coach Frank Martin told Goodman he does not expect Kelly to play Tuesday.

“He probably won’t go,” Martin said, according to the report. “We need to be at our best in March, so I need him to be consistently good for me than the last two days. I’m not happy with the way he’s been the last two weeks. We’re a very young team and I need good leadership from him.”

Kelly averaged 11.5 points and six rebounds per game last season as a junior.

He was a preseason first-team Big 12 selection after starting all 37 games last year in his first season of eligibility with Kansas State. Kelly transferred to the school from Connecticut after the 2007-08 season.

Martin has not specified exactly why Kelly has been benched, but the senior’s work ethic has often been question during his collegiate career.

First things first, I am OK with Frank being Frank but I draw the line when it affects the whole K-State Nation, ecspecially going up against a formidable opponent.  James Madison, OK, but Va Tech, not OK!!

He needs to play but I guess this will have to get Wally or Freddy to step up and earn thier time....maybe one will surprise us tomorrow!!
