Wouldn't the Cotton take Oklahoma or Oklahoma State if both of them don't make the BCS?

My understanding is that the Cotton would take the clear #2 (or #3 if 2 bcs bids for the conference).  If we finish 9-3 and they(Texas) is 8-4 with a win over us, I believe they would still take us.  Though, lets say for some reason we ended with the same record and we beat them head to head, we are still technically tied and they would likely take Texas over us.

This is not always the case.  A&M was not the clear #2 last year, yet they still got the Cotton.  I think for some reason Cotton will take a Texas team over any other team if they have the opportunity.

From what my tiny history look back showed was, clear #2/3 based on conference record, they went.  If a tie in conf record, they picked between those teams.  Being in two different divisions led to many ties.  This year it wont be as bad.  Time will tell what they do, but this wont be worth talking about unless we are clear #3 team in Big 12 based on record.

I think it's going to be hard not to be clear #3 unless we lose out.

Still Cotton vs. either Georgia or Arkansas. I was mad that they didn't put us in the Orange Bowl but this bowl might actually be more prestigious at this point.

Cotton vs. Arkansas but we're going to be playing Houston in the Sugar Bowl if Michigan doesn't get eligible for the BCS. I think we need to be Wisconsin and Georgia fans this weekend.

Some notes from reading up on new projections:

Quote
Michigan's 40-34 victory over Ohio State ended a seven-year losing streak to the Buckeyes, but it didn't do much to boost the Wolverines' BCS rating. In fact, the Wolverines actually fell from No. 15 to No. 16 in the latest BCS standings, after Wisconsin jumped them.

But Michigan still seems like a safe bet to grab a BCS at-large berth -- possibly an invitation to play No. 6 Houston in the Jan. 3 Allstate Sugar Bowl -- after finishing 10-2 under first-year coach Brady Hoke

The No. 15 Badgers play No. 13 Michigan State in the inaugural Big Ten championship game in Indianapolis on Saturday. The losing team figures to drop out of the top 14 of the BCS standings, which would leave the winner as the only Big Ten team ranked in the top 14.

Under BCS rules, a team must finish in the top 14 of the final BCS standings to be considered for a BCS at-large berth -- unless there's only one team from its conference in the top 14. So if only one Big Ten team finishes in the top 14 of the final BCS standings, Michigan could still receive an at-large bid as long as it finishes in the top 18.

That is a blow to the BCS chances.
I still am split on our chances to the Cotton bowl.  3 loss OU could still make a bigger match up with Arky then us, so not sure who they would actually pick.  If OSU losses, one would think they could snag another BCS, if not they should be a lock for the Cotton.  Lets just say, I got my Dallas and San Antonio hotels reservations ready.  Riverwalk would be more fun for a mini vacation, but a SEC match up would be more exciting to watch, so I am game for w/e.

Tostitos Fiesta Bowl

When: Jan. 5, 2012, 8:30 p.m. ET on ESPN

Current prediction: Oklahoma State Cowboys vs. Stanford Cardinal

Next up for Oklahoma State's spot (Big 12): Oklahoma, Kansas State
Next up for Stanford's spot (at-large): Michigan, Houston, Boise State

The winner of the Oklahoma State-Oklahoma matchup will land here, unless the highly unlikely happens and the Cowboys wind up in the BCS title game. Under that scenario, the Fiesta would almost certainly take Kansas State over OU.

Stanford is a likely candidate for the other slot, but it's also possible that if Oklahoma State wins the Big 12, the Fiesta could choose Houston here, because on paper that would be the biggest track meet in BCS history. Just for the sheer entertainment value of seeing those two offenses playing each other, I can certainly see the Fiesta considering Houston in that spot.

Michigan is also a possibility if the Wolverines make it into the top 14 of the BCS standings (more on that later), but the Fiesta could also pick Boise State if Oklahoma is the Big 12 rep. The Sooners would be appearing in the Fiesta for the fourth time in the past six years, and the bowl would need to do something to energize the OU fan base.

Allstate Sugar Bowl

When: Jan. 3, 2012, 8:30 p.m. ET on ESPN

Current prediction: Michigan Wolverines vs. Houston Cougars

Next up for Michigan's spot (SEC): Kansas State, Georgia, Alabama
Next up for Houston's spot (at-large): Stanford, Boise State, West Virginia, TCU

It's not a slam dunk at all that Michigan will finish in the top 14. They're going to sweat this one out, I can promise you that. The best-case scenario for the Wolverines is that the teams close to them in the standings drop by next week (if LSU crushes Georgia, that'd be a big help). If they don't make it, the Sugar could look to take Kansas State here. Georgia can earn a bid by beating LSU and winning the SEC, while there's a very slim chance that Alabama could get jumped in the BCS standings and wind up in the Sugar.

If Houston keeps winning, this is a likely destination for them. If the Cougars take a loss, Stanford and Boise State become at-large options here, while TCU could get an automatic BCS bid based on being the highest-ranked non-AQ school conference champion.

I think the moral of the story is Go Georgia (or at least keep it closeish)!

Well if that read from CF and this one http://espn.go.com/colleges/oklahoma/football/story/_/id/7288524/with-win-oklahoma-state-cowboys-oklahoma-sooners-make-fiesta-bowl, I am feeling better about having a top tier bowl with a win over ISU.
