Hypothetical
« on: January 19, 2011, 12:45:23 PM »

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this team; obviously they weren't as advertised.  And I think it would be safe to say everyone would have been happy with a 3-1 start in the Big12.

So what about if they had started 2-2 with a win over Colorado (@ home)?  Would K-State Nation (and I mean in the bigger sense, not just this site) of melted down after the Mizzou loss had we had a 2-2 record?

I was a little surprised when everyone was :Drink: after the Tech win (no one seemed to address that this is the worst team in the Big12) and :ksuftw: after the Mizzou loss (which was expected, albeit not by that margin).

Are we more :cutyou: about
1)the Colorado loss
2)the way we lost to teams like OSU and MU
3)the sad realization that we aren't what the media hyped us to be

I am more upset about the Colorado and OSU loss. We were leading in both these games with rather large margins at some points and in the span of 1-2 minutes not only lost that margin but had been put into a large hole. I didn't get jacked up about Tech because that was a sure win, I think it's safe to say that after what Colorado did to Mizzou we weren't expecting an easy one. Biggest surprise in Big 12 right now, other than how bad K-State is, has to be Colorado.

Colorado just lost to neb, and it wasnt every close. Biggest surprise is how bad we are, then how bad baylor is, then how good a&m is.

Hypothetically speaking if we do end up with only an NIT offer does this team choose to play in it? If so does Pullen Play?

When Huggins went to the NIT with KSU he gave the team the option to play in it or pass, that team obviously decided to play in it, but I'm not so sure this team would.

Not speaking for Pullen (and don't really care about him at this point) but there is no chance they would pass on the opportunity to play in the postseason.  It would be PR nightmare to snub the NIT and could affect future consideration for getting invited to a tournament (NIT or NCAA).

Plus coaches love the extra time to practice with their team.

This is right on...what Pullen said was just plain stupid and put us in the media's bad light.

Okay, so how do we salvage the season?  You know I'm not a Chiefs fan but I was relating our conference schedule (16 games) to Todd Haley's "take the season one quarter at a time" mantra.  So in the 1st quarter we sucked with a 1-3 record (against @OSU, CU, TT, @ MU).  Lets look at the final three quarters of the season:

2nd qtr- @ A&M, Baylor, @ KU, NU
3rd qtr- @ ISU, @ CU, KU, OU
4th qtr- @ NU, MU, @ UT, ISU

Best case scenario, I see us going 2-2, 3-1, and 3-1.  That would get us NINE wins in conference which I think we can agree would be a great finish given how we started out.  But I stress, this is BEST CASE SCENARIO as I see it (and think going 8-8 is more realistic).

Thoughts ???
