Title: What if the schedule was different?!?
Post by: KSUftw on October 17, 2012, 10:16:37 AM
So.... I was bored and thought of something.

What if WVU's schedule was different, how worried would I be today for this weekends match up?

Lets assume WVU's non conf remained the same.  Good Geno numbers over Marshall, James Madison, and Maryland.  Worth the praise and worthy of the #9 ranking.  Now the interesting thought I had starts.

Instead of them beating #25 Baylor barely, and beating  #11 Texas luckily and moving into #5 ranking, what if they played their Big 12 schedule like this:

@ Tech - Loss - No more #9 ranking, now they are around the 20th ranking
Vs. Baylor - Win - Wouldn't move them up much as Baylor we know barely beat Louisiana Monroe and lost big to TCU without their starting QB.  AKA, they are not worth the #25 ranking
Vs. Texas - This match up would lose a TON of hype as we now know Texas can't handle the top teams in the league like OU.

Might be a bit hard to understand, but today I am nervous, and its mainly due to Geno's numbers and the offensives ability to strike quickly.  They supposedly were taking care of ranked teams (BU and Texas), but we now know that neither of those teams are worth a darn, especially BU who kept it so dang close.   If they would have played Tech early and lost, and then kept it close like they did with the other two conference wins over opponents we now know are not that good, then I wouldn't be scared at ALL.  But knowing that last week this team was ranked in the top 5, I think I am more nervous then need to be.

Thoughts?

Yeah I agree with your thoughts around the timing of there victories. Its puts them on a perfect stage for talking points for all the talking heads. There a easy team to talk about when there putting up 500 yards and there the new kid on the block in the big 12. I def feel like there a team like Texas Tech and Tech showed them a "welcome to Big 12 Football" win. I feel like they will change up there scheme alittle bit this week to beat us at our own game to keep Collin off of the field. This will be a close one for sure but I want to hope that our defense has another solid game and gets a pick 6 for the win.

I look at our 2 conference wins (KU was a given so no concidering that) and they BOTH were extremely close. OU in Norman is our landmark win, but Tech also beat them last year, so THIS OU team might just not be like those of the past. ISU played TCU really well and also got beat by Tech. Maybe Tech is the powerhouse and we are all over looking that point. Teams have good games and bad ones. K-State has stayed rather consistence apart from the mental mistakes against ISU. I guess what I am trying to say is don't fool yourself into a since of calm. This WVa team is good and their defense is better than people are giving them credit for. They may not be the best in space, but they are fast and fly to the ball. It's going to be a true test and if we get by it we live as an undefeated team for at least another week. The rest of the games are going to be hell, our only easy conference game came after a bye.
