Title: **Official Championship Week 2012 Thread**
Post by: cf0102 on March 03, 2012, 05:18:45 PM
Well, ladies and gentlemen, it is officially time for the most wonderful time of the year. I know we love the NCAA Tournament but I can argue that Championship Week is more fun because as you watch games from all over the country you have to wonder how their result can impact other teams from around the country (Thankfully the Cats won't have to worry about that this year). This page is where I will be listing the automatic bids:

Automatic Bids (30)

Big South - UNC Asheville
Ohio Valley - Murray State
Atlantic Sun - Belmont
Missouri Valley - Creighton
Colonial Athletic - VCU
MAAC - Loyola (MD)
West Coast - St. Mary's
Southern - Davidson
Sun Belt - Western Kentucky
Ivy League - Harvard
Horizon League - Detroit
Summit League - South Dakota State
Northeast Conference - LIU Brooklyn
Patriot League - Lehigh
Big Sky - Montana
America East - Vermont
Conference USA - Memphis
MEAC - Norfolk State
Southland - Lamar
Pac 12 - Colorado

Mountain West - New Mexico
MAC - Ohio
SWAC - Mississippi Valley State
Big East - Louisville
Big West - Long Beach State
WAC - New Mexico State
A 10 - St. Bonaventure
ACC - Florida State
SEC - Vanderbilt

Teams that SHOULD be in (29)

ACC - 3 (Duke, North Carolina, Virginia)
Big East - 6 (Syracuse, Marquette, Georgetown, Notre Dame, Cincinnati, UConn)
Big Ten - 6 (Michigan State, Ohio State, Michigan, Indiana, Wisconsin, Purdue)
Big XII - 5 (Kansas, Baylor, Iowa State, Kansas State, Texas)
SEC - 3 (Kentucky, Florida, Alabama)
Mountain West - 2 (UNLV, San Diego State)
A 10 - 2 (St. Louis, Temple)

Total bids accounted for: 59

Yeah. Maybe Texas if they have a good week in KC. I realize that I should put what teams I'm talking about when I talk about how many teams a conference is getting in so I went back and put that in.

Butler loses in the Horizon League Tournament and will not receive an at large bid according to the experts. It must be because their only non conference win of note was Purdue and they lost at Ball State and to Detroit twice including once at home.

I think Lunardi is going to have us as a #8 tomorrow playing one of these teams: Alabama, Cincinnati (I think it will be them), Virginia or Southern Mississippi. The #1 seed that he'll have us matched up against will probably be Syracuse. I think Duke will be the #2 seed.

Creighton won the Missouri Valley, so I took them out of the "Should be in" category and put them in the "Automatic Bids" category. That doesn't change the math though.

There are 4 Championship Games tonight (my picks in bold):

CAA - VCU vs. Drexel
MAAC - Fairfield vs. Loyola (MD)
WCC - Gonzaga vs. St. Mary's
Southern - Davidson vs. Western Carolina

Going with all of the underdogs with the exception of Davidson! VCU needs to win to get in according to the "experts".

I was right except the #1 is North Carolina and its the West. Missouri is the #2 and Marquette is the #3.

VCU wins and gets an automatic bid and the experts think that Drexel will still receive an at large bid so the bubble may have just shrunk.

The field has been updated and the Bracketology is the same as yesterday. Also there are a few more Championship games tonight: The Sun Belt (North Texas), Horizon League (Valpo) and Summit League (South Dakota State). I've put the favorites in parenthesis.

The field has been updated and the Bracketology is still the same. Tonight we have the Big Sky Championship (Montana) and the Northeast Conference Championship (LIU Brooklyn).

I've added UConn to the "Locks" list

Quick question.....If we fall to a #10, which #2 would you like to play (Michigan State, Duke or Ohio State)?

#9 seed in the West playing #8 Alabama in Greensboro with the winner probably playing #1 North Carolina. #2 Missouri and #3 Georgetown are also in that region.

Temple has lost in the A-10 meaning that I think a bid just got stolen.

Memphis moves from the should be in's to the definitely in's and the A-10 is going to steal a third bid.

#8 seed in the East playing #9 Virginia in Pittsburgh with the winner playing #1 Syracuse. #2 Duke and #3 Michigan are also in the region.

There are 4 games left today:

SEC - Vanderbilt vs. Kentucky
ACC - Florida State vs. North Carolina
Big 10 - Ohio State vs. Michigan State
A 10 - St. Bonaventure vs. Xavier

The only game of note on that list is the A 10. If St. Bonaventure wins another bid will be stolen.

I think if Ohio State wouldn't have lost Missouri would have been a 1 seed.

I think I agree with you. I haven't gone back to check my work to see how I did.
