Title: Not the year as expected
Post by: KSUftw on November 15, 2011, 09:47:08 AM
Wow... this is not what I expected.  I figured with McGruder and Spradling leading the team, Henriquez adding his blocks and dunks (which he has worked on and finally has D1 level skills), Samuals toughness (when he is back), along with tons of other guys who are going to make the bench very deep would equal a talented underrated team.  After watching UNC and MSU and seeing how polished those teams played, we are FAR FAR from that level.

FT probs again
3 point struggles
TURNOVERS
No synergies
Horrible passing
Early foul troubles
This is from watching only by TV, not in person, but no swag or excitement

These are all very fixable before league play, but I don't see these all being fixed before teams like WVU and Bama.  I have to predict us around 4 losses after nonconf.  Top that without 4 easy wins against Col and Neb, we are def outside looking in on the NCAA.  I am praying they get this stuff fixed asap so I can enjoy bball season.

I agree these first 2 games are not what I was wanting to see either. All the negatives you pointed out are right in line with what has me worried too.

Here are some of the positives I have seen.

We do have better shooting overall on the team this year. Even though it hasn't shown too much there are glimpses of what Angle and other youngsters (BS) can provide us.

We are HUGE! WOW Seeing JO come out and not seeing his bones is awesome, add that with Spradling having some biceps, and our other bigs is exciting. We will be pushing people around all year.

Rebounding was good, but then we dropped the ball or didn't get a good grab on it. We made first contact A LOT last night. As the season goes forward the players will begin to pull that ball into their bodies a lot quicker.

Frank Martin. He was sick the first game and it was obvious. Last night he really laid into those guys, and by his motivation to Sprads and McGruds during Half Time, I'm glad we have him.

Jamar and Martavious aren't playing and we're asking a bunch of freshmen and sophomores to run a system that they don't know yet. Nobody's going to remember these games in January, February and March so quit making more out of these games then what they are. A bunch of glorified exhibitions.

Ya, I have to echo Lynch.  I understand we don't even have the starters out there.  But isn't it sad when other teams look rock solid in their first games and we bearly pull ours off.

Also based on what Stan was saying last night most of Loyolas players were Freshman/Sophmores as well!
