I know we all have had a nice peacefull un-dramatic week, but this might spoil it....
I had dinner with a friend last night who typically drops me a line on some great basketball inside information, she is very close to Jamar, and has a few friends in the a couple different athletic departments across the nation. Anyways she told me that Frank Martin's name has come up several times down in Miami to replace their current head coach, and she went further on to say that there has already been some direct conversation between Frank and Miami. She seems to think he would, and is going to take it.
I am very skeptical of all of this, but she has never, and I do mean never, been wrong before, which makes me all the more nervous. And No I'm not trying to stir stuff up, I just would like someone to completely shoot this information down with a little knowledge of their own so that I can sleep easier tonight
-
I hope that's not true, because Martin seems like he has a lot of respect and commitment to this program, so i don't think Martin would just get up and leave us like that. I can see why he would want to leave how it is closer to his home, and that's where he originally got started at.
so.......if this does happen, im assuming we would just promote Dalonte Hill to head coach. Which is what i think would be best.
-
I agree with Cole, I think it will be hard for a man of his morals to just turn his back on the university that took a chance on him and made him what he is today. But he would be going home....which I am sure is very tempting.
-
Anyone know what the buy out is on his contract. I'm assuming with how K-State operates it's extremely small and Miami will have no issue paying it.
-
Of course I too hope he stays in Manhattan. I would be surprised if he left, especially just one year after his contract extension. He has said repeatedly that he loves Manhattan. I think he truly does and would not leave this early. I sure hope my gut feeling is right.

During the broadcast today they said it was Frank's 90th win at kstate, then mentored that he has a strong coaching resume. I immediatly thought of this thread.
-
I think its very possible that Frank goes to Miami if the job opens up (see Huggins to Morgantown).
As for Dalonte Hill taking over, not a chance. Currie would hire his own guy... and it definitely wouldn't be someone with no coaching experience who's only worth is the DCA pipeline that has since dried up.
-
As do I, I really can see him taking this job if it opens up. I know most of the Miami fans are getting tired of Frank Haith's preformance this season. Miami would love to get their hands on Martin, and his repore with the Latin community down there. I also agree that Currie would hire his own guy who already had some success and real potiental, (also look for someone who well represents the 'family values' model). Some assistant coahces don't want to be head coaches, especially when they are earning top dollar for it i.e Dalonte.
-
Well let the fun begin....who would be his replacement?? Lon Kruger!
-
If this happens, which it won't, Brad Underwood will be the next head coach at Kansas State!

What about Steve Henson as head coach with Brad Underwood as assistant?

So you're willing to give up on the pipeline that we started 4 years ago?
-
I'm saying there is no longer a pipeline. If the worst happened and Frank left... I'd hire based on basketball prowess.
-
I guess that's where we don't see eye to eye. Dalonte Hill is not an asset to me; who has he recruited in the last couple years? Go to a practice... he's joking around with the players, not coaching. I want a COACH.
-
Hill does NOT coach. He is a highly paid recruiter/friend to the players. I suggest you attend a practice or watch a game closely he is taking with players and encouraging but not coaching.
-
If Frank does leave for his home town who would you want to see come in his place?
Lon Kruger is on the top of my list. But how often has a coach left and returned for the same job?
I was very young at the time could someone tell me why he left when he went 81-47 and only had 1 bad year, plus made the NCAA tournament all 4 years with an Elite 8?
-
If I remember, the rumors going around at that time were that Kruger was having a fling with a Coed. He was very successful at KState and I was sad that he had to leave. Keep in mind though that it was just rumors that were going around in those days. I'd be curious to see what Cyclist remembers about that timeperiod
-
Lon would get my vote as well, but I'm in the same boat as to being ingnorant of why he left.
-
I don't recall much about Lon leaving. I seem to recall the coed thing.
It was like decent success, then leaving for Florida. I do recall that Dana Altman had already left and he was the source of talent. Of course, as soon as Lon left, KSU hired Altman...
-
Lon got caught with his hand in the cookie jar of some cheerleader(s)

Sounds like the Venebals situation.
