The Bears are 13-5 (3-2) with a win over Oklahoma State and losses to Kansas, to Gonzaga in Dallas, to Washington State in Hawaii, to Florida State in Hawaii and at Iowa State. The Bears return 2 starters from last season (a squad that posted a 28-8 overall record, including a 11-5 mark in the Big XII Conference). The Bears were projected to finish 4th in the Big XII Conference.
The Bears are lead by G LaceDarius Dunn, F/C Perry Jones and F Quincy Acy. Dunn is averaging 22 points/game (leads the team), 5 rebounds/game and 2 assists/game. Dunn has been inconsistent. Last season he scored 27 at Kansas and went 11-for-27 against Hartford. He had played 106 college games going into this season (14 this season) and he had attempted at least 10 three-pointers in 17 of them (including a career-high 16 against Hartford). He had attempted 736 threes in three seasons (132 so far this season). His 299 makes going into this season (55 makes this season) were a school record and left him 91 away (36 away from the record now) from the Big 12 record.
Jones is averaging 14 points/game, 5 rebounds/game and 1 assist/game. Ranked No. 9 by Rivals.com in the class of 2010, Jones is the kind of player Baylor never used to get. Long, lean, skilled and athletic. As a matter of fact, when he signed, head coach Scott Drew said: "Signing a player like Perry is a monumental moment for this program," Drew said. "Perry will not only be a great addition to our team, but will also open numerous doors for our program in years to come."
Acy is averaging 13 points/game, 8 rebounds/game (leads the team) and 1 assist/game. Acy has met plenty of shots he didn't like, specifically any that don't involve him swinging from the rim. If you round up by three one-thousandths of a percentage point, he shot 70% from the field as a sophomore, up from 65% as a freshman. Yet he only took more than 10 shots just twice all season. He's always been one of the most athletic players in the Big 12, but he'll need to develop a couple reliable offensive moves.
G A.J. Walton leads the team in assists with 5 assists/game. Walton is a remarkably versatile player for a point guard but he has been turnover prone at times. He had the task of replacing Tweety Carter and his remarkable assist/turnover ratio. He has 85 assists compared to 57 turnovers so far this season.
The Bears went into the season missing a point guard but was loaded otherwise. They have the league's best player, Dunn, but the rest of the team is young and inexperienced. The Bears aren't off to the start that they wanted but they're right in the thick of the Big XII race. It's time for the Cats to get going and this will be a tough time to do it but at least it's at home.

I am going to continue to say this but this until we win one but this game is the biggest game of the season.
-
MUST WIN or we can forget about the NCAA tourney!
-
I've got the Cats -5

I've got the Cats -5
-5 players? Who all is leaving before this game?
-
Vegas has us favored by 4.5...
-
Gray uniforms... Hope they look as good on tv as they do in person!
-
So are we trying all color combos to see which is the luckiest?
On another note, I hate Bob Knight and I wish I was at the game so I don't have to listen to him!!!!
-
Bob Knight is a grumpy old man who hate the 3 point shot.
-
Judge just went in!
-
#5 George Brett is in the HOUSE tonight!
-
Quick observations:
1. We're finally starting to look like the old Cats again (in stretches) and
2. We must have been running late because we put our uni's on before they went into the dryer
-
Bob Knight
"Frank wants a little noise. He should figure out the zone offense rather than cheering."
I shit you not.
I want the basketball to hit him square in the throat.
-
Ugly. But I'll take the win!
-
Even worse!!
"when i go to the hotel tonight to get some sleep, im going to thank and pray for all the smart players i had play for me over the years, b/c im not seeing any out here tonight"
not the exact quote by bob knight but pretty damn close.
also on a side note, i think bob knight is a little racist. LOVED Spradling. one thing i remember him saying is he brings a lot of thought to the court and a bunch of other things, but anything Spradling did, bob knight praised him for it.
-
You're exactly right about the racist. Each time Pullen took a 3 point shot bob slammed him for it. But when Sprads took the same 3 point shot off the same play later in the game Bob said it was a good play and well thought out by Sprads, even cut to a highlight of all Sprads 3 pointers. :palm:
-
To sum it up, Bob Knight definately has a man crush on Spradling and thinks our coach is retarded...
-
This was double bad tonight. Hearing Knight in the background wants me to :typical: till I knock myself out, but watching our basketball squad pull out such an ugly :palm: win pretty much solidifies who we are. I believe we have played enough situations to clearly identify the teams near future success, and the NCAA tourney isn't looking good. Here is a quick rundown from start of season:
OMG! ranked top 5.. we are legit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
VT Win - yep, first ranked opponent down, bring it on
Gonz Win - WOW, that looked good
Duke Loss - umm.. they were ranked #1 duh, even though they looked 3x better, its Duke... no worries
UF Loss - Tough ranked opponent away from home, that's going to give any team hell.. but 44 points :(
UNLV Loss - OK, we didn't need that, but to many off the court personal issues was the reason..
OSU Loss - We are very hit and miss, but without Kelly and road big 12 opener, I will let it slide. But that's 4 losses already ???
Col Loss - WTF.. at home.. really??? We freaking suck big time. Well... Col could be the surprise big 12 team though
TTU Win - HAHA, they will be fighting who for last?
Mizz Loss - Never had a chance.. we are actually very bad and inconsistent.. This was ugly
A&M Loss - Well we finally played like we cared, for 37 minutes at least. Better then before, but this will be a long season
BU Win - We looked bad, they looked worse. That was two very over rated teams playing during prime time showing exactly why neither belong in the top 25.
KU - If you watch this and have hope, I :Salute: you.
p.s. Col Loss looks 10x worse now that Col has lost to Neb and OU. HAHA
-
Not to rain on anyone's parade, a WIN is a WIN, but one other observation from the game last night... the tunnel dance is no more!
Luckily, that's two home games in a row and we are 2-0. I can live with that.
R.I.P.

Just read some of Frank's comments and he seemed pleased!

I was looking over the box score and was impressed with a couple statistics:
-Kelly tied with a team high 7 rebounds
-McGruder found his stroke again and scored 12
-Southwell had 4 assists
-Spradling had ZERO turnovers (and 17 points)
-Samuels had 5 offensive rebounds
-Pullen played a stellar game on the defensive side of the ball
It wasn't the prettiest game but we played great defense, out-rebounded, limited turnovers, and hit our free throws.
