Not a fan of the new mascot head, either.
I personally like my Willie Wildcat wielding a guitar or power towel:

Damn Cy that thing is freaky. Imagine being tackled by that, or heck just seeing that on HD TV!

The old Willie mascot head was magnificent to say the least. But it was heavy. It was very frightening for some young toddlers when they encountered Willie. It was definitely the most realistic wildcat in the nation. I think the damn thing was made out of real wildcat hides. But it was beautiful and I wish they would bring it back instead of the rat they use now.

I would like to change my vote to "Rabid Willie" and use it only during basketball games to represent the madness and intensity of our illustrious coach, Frank Martin.
It could be kind of cool to keep the current one for all other sports and have a little dueling mascot battle.
Either way, Willie is the best mascot ever in the history of the mascot!

Wrecker. Could you please give us a brief history of the "mascot" not just Willie, but the idea, if you will.

Per my Wikipedia research:
"The word mascot has been traced back to a dialectic use in Provence and Gascony, where it was used to describe anything which brought luck to a household. It is suggested that the word is derived from the French word masqu (meaning "masked" or "concealed").
The word was first popularized in 1880, when French composer Edmond Audran wrote a popular comic operetta titled La Mascotte. However, it had been in use in France long before this, as French slang among gamblers, derived from the Occitan word masco, meaning "witch" (perhaps from Portuguese mascotto, meaning "witchcraft"), and also mascoto, meaning "spell."
Audran's operetta was so popular that it was translated into English as The Mascot, introducing into the English language a word for any animal, person, or object that brings good luck. The word with this definition was then incorporated into many other languages, although often in the French form mascotte."
Also I found out there is a "Mascot Hall of Fame" which sounds awesome. There are only eight university mascots as members but unfortunately one is another Big 12 team.
